A group of lawmakers says Wisconsin’s sex offender registry is watered down with teenagers who have no purpose being on it, and they’ve proposed legislation to carve out a so-called “Romeo and Juliet” exemption.
Under the bill, teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 years old who have consensual sex would no longer be put on the state registry, though they would be guilty of a misdemeanor crime. Wisconsin law makes it illegal for two people under the age of 18 to have sexual contact, regardless of consent. Full Article
“…though they would be guilty of a misdemeanor crime. Wisconsin law makes it illegal for two people under the age of 18 to have sexual contact, regardless of consent.” Again, I wonder how many of these lawmakers are guilty? Let get the HS year books out.
Why are they legislating morality? Who says 18 is the right age? Isn’t science saying the brain is not fully developed until 25? Why shouldn’t sexual relations be illegal until then? Kids do dumb things, e.g. having sex before you are 18 is dumb. Say what?! We could say legislators should not be able to run for office until they are at least 30, but that doesn’t mean they will be any smarter than a 18 year politician who wins office.
Heck, you cannot vote until 18, smoke until 18 (or 21), drink until you are 21 and now possibly have sexual relations until you are 18, but you can die for your country at 18 without a law (or even 17 if you are approved).
What will the kids in WI do in the cold winter months when not playing hockey or basketball?!
If they just did this or they just tweeked that, this whole sex offender registration thing would make sense again.
Not.
